Hello my name is Michael Gardner. I am Ed Gardner’s son. A while back he asked me to do some research on the use of probiotic microbial formulas specifically for exotic birds. I found several formulas, and some useful information. Most products in the market today tout their ability to replace the micro flora found in the gut of exotic birds. They are primarily a replacement for lost micro flora due to anti-biotic use. This is common in animal performance industries such as horse racing and greyhounds as well. These products consist of primarily Lactobacillus bacteria which can be helpful to a mammal, but from what I have found in my research is that most birds do not do well with dairy based probiotics, and that’s what Lactobacillus is.
"Many people are concerned that antibiotics also kill good bacteria. In most cases, an otherwise healthy bird will rebuild its own flora once the infection has cleared. Feel free to give your bird probiotics, lactose-based bacteria that are used by humans to rebuild healthy flora. They are most likely harmless. However, they are also pretty much a waste of your money. These products are made from mammals for mammals. They are specific for mammalian flora. It would be nice if a true probiotic existed for birds, but the development has been too expensive in the past."

Remember that research on mammals such as dogs, cats, and rats can translate to humans, but research on birds generally does not. We are simply too different.” While the last statement in that paragraph is true, we have found that our formula, which does not contain Lactobacillus, does work on pigeons, tropical birds, poultry and many others with excellent results.
We found that using our product in the kennel of a Gulf Greyhound Track to wash out the pens and water bowls, we avoided a contagious case of kennel cough. Every kennel (which contains approximately 60 dogs) came down with the infection except the one where our product is used. The dog’s were also given a daily dose in their turn-out water bowls to drink. (When the threat of Kennel Cough came each dog received 3cc of HEALTH-GARD directly down the throat for 3 days). The kennel experienced an increase in the win ratio and a slight reduction in feed bills as well.
In the case of pigeons, the results are even more impressive. When pigeons are shipped around the country to participate in convention races and one loft races they are exposed to birds from all over, and this is a prime opportunity to spread infection. In cases where entire lofts were almost wiped out due to Circo Virus, every one of the birds using our formula survived. Not one single bird of ours succumbed to the disease when birds were falling dead all around them.
One thing is for sure, our diverse microbe water catalyst formula will attack and destroy any foreign bacteria, thus preventing infections before they start. In my opinion, this should be a primary concern in the aviary. It is less costly to prevent a problem by using our product than it is to call the vet and maybe even lose a bird.
What sets our product apart from the rest is the added catalyst. This catalyst is added to speed up the process of “good” bacterial growth. We have discovered that it also benefits the existing “good” bacteria already found in the birds’ system. Feather quality, color and general well being is enhanced. Veterinarians observe that infections quickly respond to treatment and wound healing improves. .
